Our engineers upstairs have been teasing us for the past six months about a new infrared optic they’ve been working on. We knew they had given it the codename Black Widow V3 but it wasn’t until today that we were able to actually see the device and confirm it for ourselves.
Oh man, where to begin?
The Black Widow V3’s Infrared Illuminator (Night Vision)
The Black Widow V3 features an infrared illuminator which allows for night vision functionality even in complete darkness. Customers will no longer have to use third party amplifiers to enhance low light visibility. The Black Widow V3 comes locked and loaded with infrared capabilities right out of the box. The sensor inside the primary lens is able to detect this otherwise invisible spectrum of light and transmit a live feed to the internal display screen.
Most night vision devices on the market are known as passive optics which means they require external sources of radiant energy or ambient light. The Black Widow V3 can actually create its own infrared energy which is why it’s known as an active optic. Passive optics don’t work in pitch black environments. Active optics do.
Fun Fact: Did you know that the Black Widow V3’s infrared technology can see through glass? Try doing that with a thermal imager!
Real Time Zooming No Cell Phone Required
Just like traditional optics, the Black Widow V3 has a fixed optical zoom of 500% which is active immediately upon use. However, it also features an additional computer aided magnification of 800% which can be controlled entirely through the internal menu. No third party accessory is required. This is a huge step up from our older optics which usually require the use of a cell phone to access any digital magnification functionality.
Real Time Video Capturing & Rechargeable Battery
Another key feature of the Black Widow V3 is its ability to record both picture and video to an internal memory card. The video feed can also be viewed in real time on a larger display via A/V output cables. To make things even better, the Black Widow V3 also has a fully integrated playback system which means you can view all your recorded content on the internal display screen.
It’s also worth noting that the Black Widow V3 operates using a rechargeable lithium ion battery. You will never have to waste your time (or money) with disposable alkaline batteries. Just like our older optics, the Black Widow V3 can be attached to any standard tripod. If that’s not enough for you, it also comes with an industry standard weaver mount which means you can use it as an accessory or even mount other accessories to it (like a larger infrared illuminator)
Black Widow V3 Final Breakdown
- Video Capture – Both picture and video can be recorded to an internal memory card for playback either on the internal screen or via A/V output. The device can also be hooked up via USB for easy transfer of the media files.
- Rechargeable – A high capacity lithium-ion battery means that you will not have to spend money on expensive batteries. This lithium-ion battery is fully rechargeable and backed by our lifetime warranty. It is also removable.
- Optical & Digital Zoom – The combination of digital manipulation and optical zoom allows for a combined zoom of 1300%
- Tripod & Weaver Compatible – An industry standard tripod port and weaver rail can be found on the bottom of the Black Widow V3.
