Put down your fancy french press, and your portable coffee makers, because today i’m going over over how to make the best pot of cowboy mud you’ve ever had. Most coffee makers don’t heat the water past a boil, because of this, the coffee remains acidic, and can leave your stomach in knots after drinking. When using the cowboy method of brewing, the boiling water removes the acidity out of the beans, guaranteeing you a great taste, with no repercussions after indulging.
What Is Cowboy Coffee?
Cowboy coffee is a traditional way of brewing using an extraction technique called “decoction”.
In order to start your own batch of cowboy coffee, you will need the 4 items listed below.
- Coffee grounds
- Cold water
The recipe i use for a large pot of coffee is 2 gallons of water, 2 cups of coffee grounds, and an additional cup of cold water to pour over the grounds after boiling.
Step 1: Fill your pot with cold water
Step 2: Heat the water until the pot is warm
Step 3: Add your coffee grounds
Step 4: Put the pot back on the fire until a rolling boil
Step 5: Remove the pot, and pour cold water over the grounds
Pouring cold water over the boiling water will leave the coffee grounds sinking to the bottom of your pot giving you a clean cup of coffee.
Can you believe a method so simple, can taste so great? The old saying, “they don’t make it like they use to” also applies to coffee. You may never go back after trying this method of brewing.
